Kaiyuan TempleFlip image
Kaiyuan Temple

Founded in the Tang dynasty, Kaiyuan Temple is one of Quanzhou's most important Buddhist sites and a component of the UNESCO World Heritage property Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China. Its Song-dynasty East and West Pagodas are monumental stone structures modelled on timber architecture. Buddhist halls, old banyan trees, and carvings with foreign influences preserve evidence of the cultural exchange that accompanied the great maritime port.

Xunpu VillageFlip image
Xunpu Village

Xunpu is a fishing village on Quanzhou Bay whose culture has long been shaped by the sea. Oyster-shell houses respond to the damp, windy coast, while the flower-ring hairstyle uses fresh blossoms to express the identity and aesthetics of Xunpu women. Fishing work, seafood trade, domestic architecture, and women's customs remain connected in a living maritime community rather than a staged folk display.

The day focuses on old-city culture. We adjust the order around opening hours, traffic, and the group's walking pace.

Day 3

Move from Quanzhou's intangible heritage displays to an ancient sea-crossing bridge and a coastal defence town.

Intangible Heritage Museum, Luoyang Bridge, and Chongwu Ancient City

Luoyang BridgeFlip image
Luoyang Bridge

Built in the Northern Song dynasty, Luoyang Bridge is an outstanding ancient sea-crossing stone beam bridge and a component of Quanzhou's UNESCO World Heritage property. Raft-shaped foundations reduced tidal force, while cultivated oysters helped bind and strengthen the stone base—an ingenious response to the marine environment. The bridge linked Quanzhou with northern routes and shows how the port's trade network extended inland.

Chongwu Ancient CityFlip image
Chongwu Ancient City

Chongwu Ancient City was founded in the Ming dynasty as a coastal fortress guarding southeastern China. Granite walls follow the shore and enclose gates, lanes, homes, and former military spaces in a coherent defensive plan. The surrounding Huian stone-carving tradition and fishing life add further layers, preserving military history, local craftsmanship, and the culture of a southern Fujian coastal settlement.

The museum is usually closed on Mondays. We confirm current opening and reservation requirements before travel.

Day 4

Spend the final day along Quanzhou's coast and in an overseas-Chinese village before your departure transfer.

Luojia Temple, Hongta Bay, Wulin Village, and departure

Luojia TempleFlip image
Luojia Temple

Luojia Temple stands on coastal rocks with the sea on three sides. Temple halls and southern Fujian swallowtail roofs meet the changing tide to create a rare maritime religious landscape. The setting expresses how coastal Quanzhou combines Buddhist devotion, respect for the sea, and local architectural tradition, making the temple a distinctive symbol of the region's ocean culture.

Wulin Traditional VillageFlip image
Wulin Traditional Village

Wulin Traditional Village grew from the history of Quanzhou migrants who travelled to Southeast Asia and later built homes in their native village. Southern Fujian red-brick houses, fanzi lou, brick-and-stone walls, Western columns, and imported decorative ideas stand side by side. This architectural mixture condenses the region's history of migration, family ties, and cultural exchange.

We work backwards from your flight or train, allowing time to collect luggage and reach the airport or station as recommended.

Today's itinerary

  1. 01
    Luojia Temple

Visit the temple on its coastal rocks and enjoy the meeting of southern Fujian architecture and the sea within safe, open areas.
